“That’s Odd, Let’s Drink It” on First We Feast features Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione taking brewing to the next level with celebrity beer enthusiasts. This six-part series explores the outer boundaries of experimental brewing. (Sam Calagione is famous for exploring the outer boundaries of brewing.) In each episode, Sam Calagione creates a never-before-seen beer inspired by an icon in another field—from famed restaurateur Mario Batali to NBA All-Star Chris Bosh to rap star Mac Miller.

On the series premiere of “First We Feast Presents…That’s Odd, Let’s Drink It”, Sam Calagione teams up with culinary legend Mario Batali to brew a pruno—a fermented beverage typically associated with prison. To make the pruno, Sam and Mario make use of funky, unsellable produce from Eataly Chicago. The goal of their crazy experimental ale? To prove that brewers can join the cause to reduce America’s rampant food-waste epidemic. This must watch episode is fun and educational.
