Date of Visit: Spring 2016
Brief Description: The Richland Rum Distilling Company is one of only a few distilleries in the entire United States solely dedicated to handcrafting Rum from pure cane syrup. The Richland Rum Distilling Company is one of only a few distilleries in the entire United States solely dedicated to handcrafting Rum from pure cane syrup.
The company facilities are housed in historic buildings in down town Richland – a small, rural Georgia town.
Richland Rum has only two ingredients: pure sugar cane syrup and natural water. Richland Rum is an all-natural product that does not contain any preservatives, coloring, artificial flavoring or additives of any kind.
The Distillery deploys two 1,000 Liter all copper, gas-fired Pot Stills, hand-built in Portugal.
The Virgin Rum – the ‘Hearts’ selected from each distilling run – is pampered to maturity in new, American white oak barrels, made, toasted and charred to order, for a period of 32 -36 months, before becoming ‘eligible’ for bottling.
Tours and tastings are available by appointment.
President Jimmy Carter has his very own barrel.
Used Richland Rum barrels were shipped to Terrapin Beer Company to create the first in a series of barrel aged beers – known as “Ales From The Wood”.
