House of Blues Anaheim celebrated Oktoberfest with its Lokal Brews, Lokal Grooves festival yesterday. Craft beer, German grub and music featuring local bands carried on throughout the day and into the evening.
Event attendees were encouraged to wear festive German Oktoberfest attire.
Twenty-five area craft breweries served 4 ounce taster samples. Every brewery offered two different tasty beer selections.
Participating breweries were: Ballast Point Brewing Company, Barley Forge Brewing Company, Black Market Brewing Company, Black Plague Brewing, Bootleggers Brewery, Bottle Logic Brewing, Cismontane Brewing Company, Enegren Brewing Company, Evans Brewing Company, Fall Brewing Company, Four Sons Brewing, Golden Road Brewing, Gunwhale Ales, Ironfire Brewing Company, Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Latitude 33 Brewing, Left Coast Brewing, Modern Times Beer, Mother Earth Brewing Co., Pizza Port Brewing Company, Refuge Brewery, Smog City Brewing Company, Stereo Brewing Company, Stone Brewing, and Unsung Brewing Company.
Two favorite beers that I tried were: Enegren Brewing’s Oktoberfest Marzen and Bottle Logic’s Recursion IPA. Enegren’s Oktoberfest (5.5% ABV) delivered an excellent sweet caramel malt flavor. Bottle Logic’s Recursion IPA (6.5% ABV) burst with piney and tropical fruit flavors.
Food stations throughout the event area delivered tasty German grub such as bratwurst, spatzle, schnitzel and apple strudel.
Local bands, performing in 4 different entertainment spaces, delivered high-energy entertainment. The acoustical architecture at House of Blues Anaheim is fantastic. None of the performances interfered with one another while often taking place simultaneously. A wide range of musical styles were performed – including classic rock, blues and hip hop.
All of the action was held inside the House of Blues. Hence, the event took place in an air-conditioned environment that also provided lots of comfortable seating.
Hey Firkin Ron,
Missed that, more traditional, Oktoberfest. But enjoyed celebrating Hoptoberfest with you at Pizza Port San Clemente last night on Friday, 12Oct.
I’ve got no range. Am not ashamed to admit that I resonate, almost exclusively, to California IPAs. So, for me anyway, it doesn’t get much better than last night. Many good hoppy IPAs on offer. Including, one of my absolute favorites, Pliny the Elder. Thanks for the invite.
Strange night in SoCal. First big rain in a long while. Thunderstorm! Waiting in line in the downpour on the roof deck to get my Pliny (you gotta do what you gotta do). Storm even knocked out the lights for a while. Hope you have my wallet–seem to have lost it in the darkness/confusion. Please return it at your earliest convenience.
Drove home in the driving rain with windshield wipers flailing at max speed. Not my typical commute, but made it home safely. Rain is to Californians as kryptonite is to Superman.
Let’s do it again!
Cheers,
John
