Descanso Restaurant Spreads Holiday Cheer with Pozole for a Cause
SoCal’s Beloved Modern Taquería Donates Proceeds from Family-Style Take-Home and Dine-In Pozole Orders to Local Charities, Starting December 1, 2024
PRESS RELEASE
Descanso Pozole for a Cause
Descanso Restaurant in Costa Mesa is embracing the spirit of giving with its Pozole for a Cause initiative to support local underserved communities and families this holiday season. According to the 2024 Point in Time (PIT) Count, 7,322 people are currently experiencing homelessness in Orange County, and more than 3,000 children in the region are diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses annually. From December 1 through December 31, a portion of the proceeds from every order of Descanso’s 32oz family-style Pozole, both take-home and dine-in, will benefit three local charities: Miracles for Kids, Trellis – Love Costa Mesa, and Share Ourselves, each dedicated to helping those in need.
“We’re committed to being a good neighbor in our community, and Pozole for a Cause invites our guests to join us in doing exactly that,” said Rob Arellano, owner of Descanso. “Serving pozole during the holidays always brings back cherished childhood memories of family, warmth, and togetherness. It’s more than just a dish—it’s a symbol of celebration and connection. This year, we’re honored to share that tradition with our community while giving back to those in need, spreading the same love and care that goes into every bowl of our pozole.”

Descanso’s Pozole Rojo is made with slow-simmered red chile broth, guajillo and ancho chiles, tender braised pork shoulder, and hominy, served alongside corn tortilla chips, sliced onions, sliced radishes, shredded lettuce, limes, oregano and volcano salsa for an extra kick. Priced at $32 for a 32oz portion with traditional accompaniments, the takeout special supports vital programs through three local organizations:
-
Miracles for Kids provides critical resources to families with children battling life-threatening illnesses, helping ease the burden of financial pressure by helping with essential bills, housing, and basic needs.
-
Trellis – Love Costa Mesa empowers individuals experiencing homelessness by helping them secure housing, employment, and essential services, supporting them through their transition to stability.
-
Share Ourselves offers comprehensive health and social services to those in need, including medical care, dental care, mental and behavioral health, food distribution, financial assistance, and housing navigation to support individuals and families in crisis.
For more information about Pozole for a Cause or to place an order, Descanso’s 32oz family-style Pozole Special will be available for delivery, takeout, or dine-in Thursday through Sunday from December 1 through the end of the month for just $32.
