St. Sixtus Westvleteren 12 (10.5% ABV) – Westvleteren 12 is absolutely amazing. The beer is so complex, there are layers upon layers of flavors that reveal themselves if you simply take the time to savor the beer. Westvleteren 12 pours a dark brown color with a rich tan head that leaves a wonderful lace. The beer has aromas of malt, bread, raisins, clove, and a little anise (licorice). The beer is full-bodied. Complex flavors of clove, bread, and raisin start. Next comes a wave of sweet chocolate and banana. This is then followed by a hint of licorice. The layers are complex, complimentary and amazing. The beer finishes with a mild alcohol heat coupled with malty chocolate. This beer is at a whole different level than most.
