Tröegs Mad Elf Grand Cru Returns for the Holidays

HERSHEY, PA – Tröegs Independent Brewing announces the release of Mad Elf Grand Cru, a limited “director’s cut” of its iconic holiday ale, Mad Elf.

Like its counterpart, Mad Elf Grand Cru starts with chocolate, Munich and Pilsner malts. And it features a large addition of local Pennsylvania wildflower honey. It’s also fermented with the same spicy Belgian yeast strain as Mad Elf, which lends flavors of cinnamon, clove, and allspice.

Whereas Mad Elf features five different varieties of cherries, Grand Cru exclusively showcases Balaton cherries to impart notes of tart pie filling.

Mad Elf Grand Cru clocks in at the same 11% ABV as Mad Elf, but instead of a ruby red glow Grand Cru pours a lovely deep burgundy.

“Putting this beer in cork and cage bottles helps give it that extra special touch,” says Tröegs co-founding brother Chris Trogner. “We use the same bottles for beers like LaGrave and Jovial that we bottle condition, and we know the corks are great at keeping that extra pressure in. It also means they’re great at keeping oxygen out. Since Grand Cru is a beer many people like to age, that’s a big plus.”

Mad Elf Grand Cru is available in limited 375-ml bottles and on draft everywhere Tröegs beer is sold.

2023 National Homebrew Competition Announcement

The American Homebrewers Association announced initial plans for the 2023 National Homebrew Competition.

Based on member feedback, the competition will return to first-round judging sites in regional locations across the United States in the spring.

Final round judging will take place during the week of Homebrew Con™ June 22-24, 2023, in San Diego, CA.

Overview of 2023 National Homebrew Competition

• Registration opens January 24, 2023, at which time entrants will register their entries and select a first-round judging site.
• From each first-round site, up to three finalists per style category will advance to the final round.
• Final round qualifiers will ship their entries in early June to be judged in San Diego during the week of Homebrew Con.

More information will be provided by the American Homebrewers Association in December and January.

For light options that don’t skimp on flavor, choose any of the following. 

• Pomegranate and Balsamic Glazed Salmon Salad with honey crisp apples, roast beets, fennel, walnuts, raisins, arugula, dragon fruit vinaigrette and pickled red onions.
• Pickled Bay Shrimp Tostaditos with roast carrot “mole”, cauliflower “ceviche”, shredded fennel and pickled red onions.

Hearty fall entrees include the following.

• Grilled Autonomy Farms Pasture Raised Flat Iron Steak with sautéed Swiss chard and cipollini onions, potato and three cheese gratin and port sauce.
• Grilled Soy Dijon Rubbed Pork Tenderloin with braised red cabbage, apple raisin compote, sweet mashed potatoes and apple jack brandy sauce.

Newport Dunes Presents 32nd Annual Lighting of the Bay, Nov. 25-Jan 1

Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort is pleased to kick off the holiday season with the 32nd Annual Lighting of the Bay opening night celebration featuring a full schedule of festivities on Friday, November 25 from 4-9 p.m. The resort’s nightly bay lighting will continue through New Year’s Day. 

On opening night enjoy live musical performances, stocking decorating, holiday photo booths, and more. Santa will take center stage at dusk as he flips the magic switch to illuminate the bay with more than fifty floating holiday decorations and Christmas trees. Once the bay is aglow, children will have the opportunity to meet and take photos with Santa. Guests are invited to bring blankets and beach chairs and to relax while sipping on hot cocoa and cider during an outdoor movie screening of a holiday favorite, Elf (PG), to wrap up the evening.
